10 Funniest Celebrity Art Purchases
Celebrities have bought all manner of weird and wonderful things over the years. At any given moment, a celebrity could be buying anything from a few thousands’ worth of glitter (Ke$ha, we’re looking at you) to your local football team (Sir Elton John, we’re looking at you).
Whether this is because they have eccentric taste or because they just have money to burn is something which will be debated for years to come – either way, some celebrities purchases are simply too funny to believe – especially in the world of art.
1. Justin Bieber’s Haircut – $750
source: www.rollingstone.com
When does hair become art? When you pay $750 every time you want it cut. Vanessa Price, Bieber’s stylist, has managed to land an impressive job here, even if she does have her work cut out for her – especially given how often the Bieb cuts his hair to keep it looking in perfect shape.
2. Amanda Seyfried’s Stuffed Horse – £1,000s
source: www.dailyfunlists.com
You’d be forgiven for thinking that this stuffed horse is a My Little Pony collectible. Amanda Seyfried’s stuffed horse is a 3 week old taxidermy horse which now lives with her, frozen in time. We don’t know how much this set her back, other than that it cost “thousands”.
3. Kanye West’s Golden Skull – $34,000

Kanye West is well known for his eccentricity. In this case, Kanye bought a yellow gold skull with a topaz-encrusted toupee for his friend and fellow rapper Jay-Z. Interestingly, this was a Father’s Day present which Kanye had couriered in a private jet.
4. Pharrell Williams’ Brian & Stewie Canvases – Unknown

If anyone knows how to pull off a tasteful photo canvas, it’s Pharrell Williams. That being said, Pharrell’s twin canvasses of Brian and Stewie from Family Guy are probably about 10ft tall, and stand either side of his indoor slide, for when he can’t be bothered to take the stairs. You can’t fault him though – if you’re going to live like a boss, you may as well have fun with it!
5. Nicholas Cage’s Dinosaur Skull – $276,000
source: moviepilot.com
Nicholas Cage is an actor who has dominated social media in recent years for his incredibly bizarre movie choices. It’s not just his movies which are bizarre though – Cage owns the skull of a 67 million-year-old Tyrannosaurus bataar. He also once owned a castle, a $1m comic collection and an island.
6. Chris Martin’s Banksy – $650,000
source: radio.com
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin once bought an original Banksy for his other half, Gwyneth Paltrow. Unfortunately, the heart-shaped balloon lasted longer than their relationship, with the Banksy entering a bidding war after the split. In the end, the Paltrow won the piece for $650,000.
7. Celine Dion’s Humidifier – $2m

While the humidifier isn’t strictly art, it is there to help protect art – or more specifically Dion’s voice. What makes the humidifier so expensive, other than that it’s working full blast at her home in Las Vegas? The fact that it is made of gold possibly has something to do with that.
8. Mike Tyson’s Bathtub – $2m
source: manofmany.com
Possibly one of Mike Tyson’s weirder purchases, the former boxer once bought a $2m bathtub for his first wife Robin Givens one year for Christmas. While we’re not sure if a gold bath tub is the most practical thing in the world, a 24 carat solid golf bath tub certainly looks rather unique.
9. Brangelina’s Collection – €18m

Brad Pitt, believe it or not, is quite an avid collector of Art Deco furniture. It’s all part of an €18m collection that the couple owns, which includes works from Neo Rauch, Yayoi Kusama, Marcel Dzama and Banksy.
10. Donald Trump’s Gold Plated Plane – $100m
source: www.dailymail.co.uk
Nothing screams lavish (or over the top) like gold plating everything on your private Boeing 757, which seats up to 230 passengers. In case you’re curious, that’s the plane you’ll usually fly on with EasyJet or Ryan Air. You’d think he’d go for a smaller plane, all things considered, but the 757 is actually twice the size of his original Boeing 727.
