10 Surprising Sex and the City Facts

The Sex and the City ladies rarely kept any information to themselves, yet there is so much about the hit show we don’t know. So we thought we’d share 10 of the most interesting facts about everyone’s favourite foursome.

 

1. The Book

Sex and the City is based on the book of the same name by Candace Bushnell; however, Darren Starr, the creator of the TV show, only paid her $60,000 for the rights. Bargain!

 

2. Carrie’s Wedding Dress

The note included with Carries wedding dress was written by Vivienne Westwood herself!

 

3. Nudity Clause

Sarah Jessica Parker was the only character out of the four girls that had a no nudity clause in her contract. That’s why you never seen her on screen in less than her underwear.

 

4. Blondes Do it Best

Cynthia Nixon isn’t actually a red head. She’s a natural blonde and dyed her hair for the role.

 

5. Samantha Jones

Kim Cattrall turned down the role of Samantha Jones as she didn’t want to play the character. However, she was persuaded by the creator and producers, and later stated that Sarah Jessica Parker’s commitment to the show was a big factor.

 

6. Natasha

Remember Big’s wife Natasha? She was deliberately dressed in white in every scene, other than the last. This was to convey her boring personality to the audience.

 

7. The Shoe Rule

Kim Cattrall insisted on wearing heels in every scene, even if she was shot from the waist up. She said it was because the heels made her feel more like Samantha.

 

8. Earrings

As well as not being a natural red head, Cynthia Nixon’s ears also aren’t pierced. All the earrings you see her wear on the show are clip-ons – with many of the earrings specially made to fit her style.

 

9. The Famous Tutu

The famous tutu in the opening titles was bought at a thrift store for just $5. It also wasn’t used as another version was shot without the tutu.

 

10. The Bradys

Miranda became Miranda Brady when she married Steve. Together they have a child called Brady. That’s right, his name is Brady Brady!
