Calvin Candie might be a racist, but Leonardo DiCaprio most definitely is not. In fact, he was initially against the idea of playing the foul-mouthed character. Quentin Tarantino had to convince him to be as menacing as possible, stating he had to play the character all the way or the audience would never forgive him.
During one of the scenes, he actually had to stop filming as he was struggling with the sheer amount of racial slurs he had to say. Samuel L. Jackson then stepped in to reassure him, stating: “Motherfucker, this is just another Tuesday for us”.
